Pick Up a Book
You have been meaning to read, but that book by that science fiction author, or perhaps the latest thriller or romance novel, has been sitting on your nightstand for weeks now. Reading for pleasure might seem like a luxury. It can whisk you away to some far-off land or drop you right into the middle of a wild adventure. It is a form of escape that takes you from the tasks piling up at work and at home. Reading, however, has a lot of great benefits, not the least of which is the reduction of stress.
Turn on Some Music…and Dance
Listening to music can be a great way to lower stress levels. Some types of music, such as classical or nature sounds, can help to calm you, while also improving your focus, in the midst of working on a demanding project or studying for that final exam. You can do a search online and find albums dedicated to just this purpose. There are times, though, when the best thing you can do is take a short break from it all. Step away from your desk, close your office or bedroom door, crank up some music with a good groove and dance with abandon. Pairing music with dance has the added benefit of giving your body a physical release from the stress.
Your list will still be there when you return to it. The difference will be that after reading or dancing, you may have more to give to getting it all done because your mind may be refreshed, and your stress hormones may be lower. What are you waiting for?
