Planning a week at the beach takes work. You’ve got to find a hotel and transportation from Hobby Airport to Galveston. Don’t forget to also plan for how you will stay healthy.
Pack Your Medications Properly
Bring any medications with you that you will need for the week. Keep them in the original bottles so that airport security and police can easily identify the contents. If you have a liquid medication, you will need to take it out of your bag during security screening.
Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables
It’s easy to let your diet go at the beach when you’re surrounded by pizza and deep-fried treats. Decide in advance on a limit of how many treats you will allow yourself. Then seek out the salads, soups, and veggie wraps on restaurant menus. Stop at a grocery store and pick up fruit for your hotel room in order to avoid hitting the vending machine. If your room has a microwave, you can also skip eating out a few nights and just nuke a bowl of rice or soup.
Drink Plenty of Water
Water is essential for keeping your body working properly. At minimum, you need to drink eight glasses of water. This amount increases on hot days. Don’t wait until you are thirsty to sip. Pack a water bottle so that you can easily drink throughout the day. You will also want to stay away from sodas that may increase dehydration.
Don’t Forget the Sunscreen
Even on overcast days, the sun can start to burn your skin in as little as 30 minutes. You also increase your risk of skin cancer with unprotected exposure. Make sure you put on SPF 50 sunscreen before you head out on the sand. Have a buddy help you reach areas like your back. Consider wearing sunglasses and a broad-brimmed hat. Set your phone alarm so that you don’t stay on the beach too long.
With some advance preparation, you can enjoy a healthy and fun week at the beach.
